Icy roads are believed to be a contributing factor in a Feb. 1 accident that claimed the life of a Leitchfield woman.
Debra Stephens, 64, was killed around 7:45 a.m. CST in the two-vehicle collision, which happened at the 124-mile marker of the Western Kentucky Parkway, in Hardin County.
Stephens was driving east in a Chevrolet Silverado and “due to the ice-covered road conditions at the time” crossed the median into the path of a westbound Freightliner being driven by William Roberts, 62, of Winchester, Kentucky State Police Trooper Scotty Sharp said.
Stephens was pronounced dead at the scene by the Hardin County Coroner’s Office. Roberts was not injured.
The parkway’s westbound lanes and one eastbound lane were closed for some time to allow troopers to investigate the crash.
The accident remains under investigation, Sharp said Monday.
