New VFW post for Grayson County?

By The Staff

Organizers are trying to gauge interest in starting a new Veterans of Foreign Wars post in Grayson County.
The post would be formed in the Leitchfield area, to serve local veterans. A minimum 35 new members are needed to found the post, with those people being considered charter members. Members of other VFW posts could transfer their membership to the new post and be considered charter members.
Currently, there is a VFW post in the Falls of Rough area. The Leitchfield post would not replace it, said Carl Kaelin, a Grayson Countian who serves as a vice chairman of the VFW’s National Legislative Committee and is the organization’s past national chief of staff.
Organizers will be at the WalMart Supercenter in Leitchfield starting at 9 a.m. June 16 and July 7. They will have information about the VFW and the benefits of a local post, such as being able to locally file VA claims and have a more direct say in veterans issues in state and federal government.
Interested veterans are asked to bring copies of their DD-214 or other documents showing their overseas combat duty. The cost to join the VFW is $35.
