Clinton Decker, 62

Clinton Decker, 62, of Leitchfield died Tuesday, May 14, 2013, at University of Louisville.

He was born Aug. 1, 1950, in Leitchfield, the son of Shelt and Amie Decker. He was a machine operator at Leggett and Platt.

Edward Joseph Clouse, 41

Edward Joseph Clouse, 41, of Leitchfield died with his son on Sunday, May 5, 2013, in Leitchfield.

He was born Feb. 26, 1972, in Port Huron, Michigan.

He was a devoted father, who enjoyed hanging out with friends, and riding horses.

He is survived by his wife, Shauna Clouse; two sons, Aydan Joseph Clouse of Leitchfield and Damien Walker Cook of Caneyville; and a daughter, Brooklyn Grace Cook, also of Caneyville.

He was preceded in death by a very special friend, Kalvin King.

David William Powell, 87

David William Powell, 87, of Clarkson died Friday, May 10, 2013, at Twin Lakes Regional Medical Center in Leitchfield.

He was born July 31, 1925, in Grayson County, the son of Jess Herbert and Cora Smith Powell.

He is survived by three sisters, Leonna Carby, Pauline Blessitt and Elsie Willis, all of Clarkson; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Elbert, James, Richard and Shelby Powell; and four sisters, Mae Beeler, Connie Buster, Lena Ellen Beeler and Mami Powell.

Eva Haycraft, 82

Eva Haycraft, 82, of Clarkson died Sunday, May 12, 2013, at her residence.

She was born Sept. 23, 1930. She was an Avon representative for 32 years and was a member of Pleasant Valley Baptist Church.

Survivors include three daughters, Martha Charlotte (Buddy) Willis of Clarkson, Beverly (David) Hayes of Clarkson and Lynetta (Darrell) Whitworth of Clarkson; a grandson, Jeffrey Fields of Leitchfield; granddaughter, Turetta (Gary) Skees of Clarkson; and great-grandchildren, Celina and Landon.

Arson suspected in car fire

Leitchfield Police Department is investigating an apparent arson case. According to Detective Kevin Smith, LPD responded to a vehicle fire on Sunrise Drive after Leitchfield firefighters fought the blaze for several minutes.

“After extinguishing the fire, it was determined that the fire had been purposely set on fire,” said a news release from LPD.

The 2000 Ford Taurus was owned by Jordan Hutchinson and was moderately damaged by the fire.

LPD is continuing to investigate.

Anna Ruth Meredith, 81

Anna Ruth Meredith, 81, of Leitchfield, formerly of Louisville, died on the evening of May 10, 2013, at Twin Lakes Regional Medical Center.

She was the former Anna Ruth Neuner. She loved to shop thrift stores, cooking, was known as a peace maker in her family. She had been a life-long member of United Church of Christ.

KU warns customers of recent bill-payment scam

(LOUISVILLE, Ky.) – Kentucky Utilities Company is alerting customers of a recent telephone scam asking customers to pay their bills over the phone.
 
The caller claims to be a utility employee and asks for immediate bill payment by credit card or pre-paid money card.  If the targeted customer does not cooperate, the caller threatens to disconnect the person’s electric service.
 
KU has alerted authorities and offers the following SAFE advice to residential and business customers:
 

Dorothy Bryant ‘Dot’ Miller, 89

Dorothy Bryant "Dot" Miller, 89, of Hardinsburg died Friday, May 3, 2013, at Hardinsburg Nursing and Rehab Center.

She was born in Breckinridge County on July 17, 1923, the daughter of the late Frank and Chloe Bryant Miller. Dot was a member of Hardinsburg United Methodist Church and retired from Harrington's Drug Store.

She is survived by nieces and nephews

Georgia Lee Patterson, 100

Georgia Lee Patterson, 100, of Clarkson died Tuesday, May 7, 2013.

She was born Feb. 22, 1913, and lived all of her life in Grayson County. She was a retired school teacher. She taught at Clarkson Elementray School and one-room schools for a total of 47 years and was a life long member of Clarkson Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School for many years.

Park damaged by juveniles

Leitchfield Police Department is investigating vandalism at a local park.

It appears juveniles are responsible for damaging the  bathroom facility at the Firefighter’s Park pavilion on Brandenburg Road on Thursday, May 16. The new bathroom facility’s brick walls were marked with graffiti from what appears to be a rock scratched over the surface.
