  • Government should care more

Way back in my youth, I innocently believed that there was no one in our government who didn’t have American’s best interest at heart. Two parties, differing ideas, but same goal. many adder and wiser years later, I have no such naive illusions.

  • Thanks for the memories

I am filled with hope and a sense of sadness as I announce I am retiring from federal service at the end of January.
After much prayer, I know God is calling me to a new chapter in my life and a new role - to be able to spend more time with my loving and consistently supportive husband, Larry, and to be a full time caregiver for my mother.

  • Support is appreciated

The Senior Companion Program wants to express gratitude for the fundraiser held at Big Clifty Community Center on Oct. 8. To those who donated items for the auction, the auctioneer, the people who prepared the chili and other food and the groups singing were so generous. Everyone did a wonderful job. The money raised will go toward helping  our volunteers continue to provide free services to their in-home clients.

  • Regarding the triangle issue

We do not use the triangle for more than one reason. The foremost reason is the triangle represents the Trinity (Father, Son and Holy Ghost).
We do believe in the Trinity but we do not believe in a metal plate that is said to represent the trinity. In the 10 Commandments it says: Thou shall not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, etc. . .
No material is valuable enough to even begin to represent the holiness of the supreme one.
The Commandments say: For I the Lord thy God am a jealous God, etc. . .

  • Be sure to vote

With Nov 8th Election day less than two weeks away, we here at the County Clerks office find ourselves very busy. The weeks of preparation that is required is very time consuming as our office is responsible for the entire election process.
Anyone needing to apply for an absentee ballot may do so in my office Monday through Friday 8 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. You may also contact my office at 259-3201 with any questions concerning an absentee ballot.

  • Have you kept your appointment with God

We may rush to meet out appointments: An appointment with a doctor, one with a business partner, one with a friend for lunch. We want to be on time.
Let’s get that dedicated about keeping our appointment with God to meet him in  prayer and devotion. Set a time that you will go in and commune with him.
We spend a long time talking with “friends” over lunch. How much time do we spend talking to the one who is our best friends, or wants to be our best friend.

  • Appreciates caring from others

I read in a newspaper about the recent event in Leitchfield where a very distraught individual reached the end of his rope and sat at the edge of a bridge when he saw no hope for the future and was met by an off-duty police officer. What little I know about the situation caused me to be thankful that I live in Grayson County.

  • School success depends on home support

A child’s education is one of the most important factors that will determine his or her success later in life. Statistics overwhelmingly show that children who finish high school are much more likely to find long-term employment and career opportunities, and it also opens the door for them to continue their education in college or vocational school, further enhancing their chances at success.
