  • County observes school board member month

    Grayson County School District will join public school systems across the Commonwealth in honoring a group of local leaders during the January observation of School Board Member Recognition Month in Kentucky.
    Carolyn Thomason, Valeria Hayes-Hicks, Anna Majors, Mona Fulkerson and Charlotte Gower are important players in the ongoing quest to ensure that the students of Grayson County Schools receive the highest possible quality of learning experiences from innovative teachers in safe and efficiently managed schools.

  • School is on for President’s Day

    Grayson County School System is planning to have school on President's Day, which is Feb. 21. The school district often schedules  school around that national holiday but will use it as a makeup day.
    The announcement came at the school board meeting Jan. 13.

  • Kentucky students may win $1,500 toward college and $500 for their school

    Kentucky students in kindergarten through sixth grade have a chance to win $1,500 toward college and $500 for their school in the Dream Out Loud Challenge.

    Students are invited to submit an original drawing, poem, essay or video answering the question “How will I change the world after I go to college?”

    The challenge, sponsored by the Kentucky Education Savings Plan Trust, is intended to remind families that it is never too early to start saving and planning for higher education.

  • Financial literacy celebrated

    Grayson County DECA members celebrated Financial Literacy Week Jan. 3-7 by conducting a variety of financial workshops to students at the high school and elementary levels. Due to the snow days, the week-long celebration has been extended throughout the month of January.

  • WKU starts Super Saturdays

    This winter, children with high interest or high ability in the first through eighth grades can sign up to use chemistry to solve a mystery, investigate rocket science, explore transportation at Bowling Green’s Historic Railpark or the Corvette Museum, or create a Chinese masterpiece through The Center for Gifted Studies Winter Super Saturdays program at Western Kentucky University.

  • Dean’s list announced for Midway College

    Shannon Gibson of Clarkson and Taresa Goldsmith, of Clarkson, was named to Midway College’s Fall 2010 Dean’s List recipients.
    In order to be named to the Dean’s List, a student must be classified as full time and must have achieved a minimum grade point average of 3.60 for the semester.

  • Local student graduates

    Adam L. Decker of Leitchfield, is a December 2010 degree candidate at Murray State University. Decker applied for a Bachelor of Science in Middle School Education. He is the son of Terry and Betty Decker of Leitchfield and the grandson of the late Joe and Grace Beville of Leitchfield and the late Carl and Pearl Decker of Anneta.

  • Local resident named to Who’s Who

    The 2011 edition of Who’s Who Among Students in American Junior Colleges will include the names of 10 students from Elizabethtown Community and Technical College who have been selected as national outstanding campus leaders, including Clarkson native Melanie Alvey.
    Alvey will graduate from ECTC in the Spring 2011with an Associate in Applied Science Degree in Information Technology.
    After graduation Alvey plans to transfer to Western Kentucky University to earn a bachelor’s degree in information technology.
