    If a debt collector is contacting you about a debt you know you don’t owe, explaining your case can be an uphill battle. Whether it’s a matter of mistaken identity, an honest error or identity theft, the Better Business Bureau recommends taking five steps to fight back against erroneous debt collectors.

  • 3G service upgraded here

    Bluegrass Cellular has expanded its third-generation 3G  evolution-data optimized high-speed wireless service in Grayson County. The expansion will add EVDO coverage along Millerstown Road between Clarkson and Mt. Moriah Road and continue coverage along the Western Kentucky Parkway between Leitchfield and the Hardin/Grayson county line.

    “This expansion is part of our ongoing commitment to network enhancement and customer satisfaction,”  said Barry Nothstine, vice president of sales and marketing. 

  • 40 years and more jobs

     

    Bel Cheese celebrated its Leitchfield location’s 40th anniversary with an announcement of plans to double production of its Laughing Cow cheese wedges at the current operation.

    Currently, the Main Street plant makes 35 million pounds of cheese between the Laughing Cow and Mini BabyBel brands that it produces.

    “The Cheese Plant,” as it is locally known, hosted a reception for its 375 employees on Friday, June 25, with city, county and state officials attending where the official announcement was made.

  • Local restaurant headed to national competition

    The SONIC Drive-In crew at 1479 Elizabethtown Road is one step closer to qualifying for the National Finals of the 17th annual Dr Pepper SONIC Games, the annual competition that recognizes the best Sonic Drive-Ins in the country. Leitchfield Sonic is one of 300 remaining drive-ins striving to become one of the Final 12 teams to participate in the Dr Pepper Sonic Games National Finals in Las Vegas, Nev., Oct 3 and 4.

  • Corvette is official state sports car

    Gov. Steve Beshear  visited the Corvette Plant in Bowling Green, on June 22 to ceremonially sign House Bill 104, which designates the Corvette as the official state sports car of Kentucky.

     

  • New business gets go-ahead from council

    Leitchfield City Council agreed to bypass a planning and zoning recommendation and allow Jason K. Dennis to put up a sign on McDonald Road as part of his new business.

    Dennis pleaded his case to Leitchfield City Council on Monday, April 19, asking what he could do to get a zoning change of the property he’s considering on McDonald Road.

  • New store opens

    The rain on Saturday didn’t dampen the grand opening of Grayson County’s fifth Dollar General on May 1. The store on Brandenburg Road in Leitchfield opened the week before but the grand opening gave people the chance to receive  gift certificates.

    Jason Davis, regional manager for the stores, said customers were waiting in the parking when they arrived at 6 a.m. on Saturday.

    The store opened at 8 a.m. and he said the gift certificates were gone within minutes.

  • Pit Road Re-opens

    Pit Road re-opened before Memorial Day and celebrated a grand re opening on Friday, June 4 with $2.39 gasoline.

    Owner Vinod Kapoor said the business at 961 Owensboro Road in Leitchfield will be open from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Friday, from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Saturday and from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sundays.

    The convenience store offers gasoline, soda, cigarettes and snacks. Soon it will feature a deli, said Kapoor and with the deli will come another employee.

Homeowners can find information on the foreclosure process, utility assistance and home repair assistance to make smart choices and avoid losing their homes.
