  • God understands man

It is interesting to note in the gospels the blending of the humanity and divinity of Jesus.

He was in a boat with the disciples. Tired and weary, He fell asleep. A storm caused the disciples to wake him asking, “Master, don’t you care that we perish?” Jesus rose and said, “Peace be still!” The waters obeyed His command.

You can see His humanity in His tiredness and you see His divinity as the waves obey His command. The humanity and divinity of Jesus is apparent from the beginning of His ministry.

  • God provides constant presence

One problem we face many times is a malfunction of our memory. We remember what we are supposed to forget, and forget what we should remember.

God says, “Yours sins and your iniquities will I remember no more.”

Yet many Christians are shackled with the memory of sins that God already has forgotten.

Paul said, “Forgetting those things which are behind” and yet many are chained to failures and mistakes of the past.

We need a poor memory when it comes to sins that God already has forgiven, buried and forgotten.

  • Understanding God’s many names of God

Question: “I heard a beautiful song that used the words El Shaddai. What does that mean?”

Answer: God progressively revealed His nature through the names He used in the Bible to describe Himself. El Shaddai means “the all sufficient provider.”

The Michael Card song was a praise chorus used to express that God meets all our needs and we praise Him for it.

  • Valentine’s tradition is not Bible command

Question: Where do you find Saint Valentine’s Day mentioned in the Bible?

Answer: You won’t find it mentioned in the Bible. This might disturb some people who want every custom they celebrate to be in the Bible. Others may be glad to know that they are not required to buy a Valentine card. Although this may not be the wisest excuse to use for forgetting your sweetheart.

Some religious systems do not require that every belief or practice be mentioned somewhere in the Bible. To them, church tradition is just as binding as a text of Scripture.

  • All races can trace history to Babel

Question: Does the Bible tell us where the different races came from or who was the first black person?

Answer: The Bible begins with God who existed before any thing physical or spiritual had been created. God made something out of nothing. Therefore, the differences in racial make up are a creation of God. All humanity gets their genes from a common ancestor named Adam.

  • Man still needs God

    By George W. Smith

Men today believe in a little God and a big humanity. Man is taking the place of God.

When you look at the inventions and progress of man, you feel that man is outgrowing God. Man is being glorified and God is being forgotten.

But God is a great sovereign God.

When David surveyed the handiwork of God he was made to exclaim, “What is man that thou art mindful of him ...” (Psalms 8:3-4).

Consider some ways in which we see the greatness of God in the Bible.

  • Strive for a balanced life

God desires that we each live a balanced life and the finest picture of the balanced life in the scriptures is found in Revelation 10:1-2.

“And I saw another mighty angel come down from heaven, clothed with a cloud: and a rainbow was upon his head, and his face was as it were the sun, and his feet as pillars of fire; and he had in his hand a little book open: and he set his right foot upon the sea, and his left foot upon the earth.”

  • Don’t confuse ‘familiar feeling’ with a past life

Question: I have had deja vu experiences. Are they proof that I was alive in a previous life?

Answer: The deja vu experience does not mean you were alive in a previous life according to the Bible or most psychological theories.   Some believe that those weird sensations we have like we have been in a place before even though this is the first time we were there proves they existed in a previous life. Deja vu are French words meaning “already seen.”

  • New leadership elected at Mount Saint Joseph

Five Ursuline Sisters of Mount Saint Joseph were elected Dec. 29-31 to a six-year term as the Ursuline Leadership Council, which will begin serving on July 18, 2010.

The current Leadership Council will continue to serve until July 18. They are Sister Michele Morek, congregational leader; Sister Cheryl Clemons, assistant congregational leader; Sisters Barbara Jean Head, Ann McGrew, and Maureen Griner, councilors. They were not eligible for re-election.

  • Value the greatest gift

How do you measure the value or worth of a gift?

It is Christmas and our attention is on God’s gift to us – his only son. God gave us his son to live among us showing us how to live and then to die on the cross giving his life to pay for our sins. How do we measure the value of God’s gift to us?
