  • Can a woman be a deacon or pastor?

    By Dr. Jerry Adamson

Question: Please explain I Timothy 3:1-15. Does it allow a woman to be a deacon or a pastor?

Answer: Before an adequate answer is accepted a person must answer a primary question about the Bible itself. “Dynamic” inspiration states the Scriptures contain the thoughts of God and therefore some individual words may be ignored.

  • Can deacons or pastors be divorced or single?

Question: Can a divorced or single person be a deacon or pastor?

Answer: I really appreciate this question from an anonymous reader who asks one of the major theological footballs of our day. The general term for pastor means a shepherd. The general usage of the term deacon means servant. Both terms are used for a wide variety of people in the Bible. Those terms are also used as titles for two specific offices in the church.

Biker Sunday was held Sept. 18 with more than 100 motorcycle riders attending the worship service. After a service and ride, the riders participated in a slow drag competition, in which the bike is driven as slowly as possible without the rider putting feet on the ground. The event is held each year at First Baptist Church Leitchfield. Pastors Jerry Dunaway Sr. and Jerry Dunaway Jr. officiated.

  • Child asks how Daisy will find way to doggie heaven

    By Bro. Jerry Adamson

Question: “Grandpa, Daisy died. Who is going to drive her to doggie heaven? When is she coming back?” Haylee

Answer: All questions are important but some like this one are more important than others. Haylee, God made all the people and animals in the whole wide world. So He cares about every one of them. The Bible says not even a little bitty bird will die way out in the forest without Him knowing about it. God knows Daisy died.

  • Facing the future with faith

    By Bro. George Smith

Americans are a forward looking people. Many are obsessed with and seek to forecast the future. The Apostle James in 4:13-17 says you can make three mistakes as you look to tomorrow.

One point must be made before we go further — the Bible is not against planning. People make plans every day. Proverbs says if I don’t plan I am a fool. James pictures two men making plans, but their mistake was leaving God out (4:13). It is great to plan as long as you include God.

  • The Bible offers advice on diffusing arguments

How do you avoid arguments with others? James 4:1 says, “They come from your desires that battle within you.” When my wants conflict with your wants the sparks fly.

In James 4:1-10 he goes into greater detail as to the causes of conflict, but I want to look at his cures for conflict. “God gives grace to the humble” (4:6).  “Humble yourselves before God and He will lift you up” (4:10). The cure is humility.

  • Why are the four Gospels so much alike?

This question comes from a family member as she is reading or should I say listening through the Bible during her devotional time. The first four books in the New Testament tell us the story of Jesus and His purpose for coming to Earth. They are written by four different men to four different audiences and have four different themes.

They all do follow the inspiration of the Holy Spirit who is the divine author directing them. They all have the same life from which to draw their information and seek to present the saving message of Jesus.
