Leitchfield City Council voted Monday to appoint Bryan Langdon the new city police chief.
Council members privately discussed in executive session applicants for the Leitchfield Police Chief in order to make a decision that night. Before entering executive session, Mayor William Thomason said no action or deal had been made at any time prior.
After the council returned from executive session, Thomason recommended interim LPD police chief Bryan Langdon be appointed to the permanent position. The vote was unanimous, with council member Kelly Stevenson abstaining. Stevenson’s niece is Langdon’s wife.
“It feels good for the process to be over with and to have the Council’s support,” said Langdon after Monday’s meeting.
Langdon was appointed assistant police chief by the city council after former LPD police chief Kevin Henderson resigned to fill the Grayson County Judge-Executive position in August.
“I plan to continue building on what Chief Henderson had going and working off his foundation,” said Langdon when asked about his future plans for the LPD. “I’ll get in there and see what I need to do and take care of that.”
