Elwood Whobrey, 86, of Leitchfield died Friday, Feb. 17, 2012, at Twin Lakes Regional Medical Center in Leitchfield.
He was born Jan. 26, 1926, in Grayson County, the son of the late Willard Whobrey and Sinal Emily McGrew. He was a retired general laborer, and member of the family of McGrew General Baptist Church. He enjoyed spending time with his family, fishing, and driving through the countryside enjoying the outdoors.
He is survived by five sons, Ray (Cathy) Whobrey, Carl Eugene (Gladys) Whobrey, Jason Whobrey, Roger L. Whobrey, all of Leitchfield, and Justin (Sheila) Whobrey of Hendersonville, Tenn.; two daughters, Rose Sanders of Borden, Ind., and Arlene Whobrey of Okeechobee, Fla.; a sister, Florene Haynes; a brother, Leo Whobrey; 16 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by the mother of his children, Rena Mae Whobrey.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Nancy Smith Whobrey; a son, Edward Lee Whobrey; a grandson, Daniel Jay Whobrey; a brother, Clarence Whobrey; and two special friends, Nora Irene Hicks and Ollie Miller.
The funeral was Sunday, Feb. 19 at Dermitt Funeral Home in Leitchfield. Bro. Charlie Smith officiated. Burial was in McGrew Cemetery.
