Brescia University men’s track and field team finished its 2017 season with a sixth-place finish at the River States Conference Championship in Pittsburgh.
Several Bearcats had personal-best and season-best performances. Every Bearcat that competed scored points towards the team total of 24 points, which matched lasted year’s team score. Landon Holt led the way as the high point scorer for Brescia. He finished second in the 400-meter dash with a personal best time of 49.41. He was named All-Conference for his performance in the 400-meter dash. Holt also scored points in the 200-meter dash, finishing 4th in a time of 22.74 and was a part of both point-scoring 4x100 (fourth) and 4x400 (fifth) relay teams.
Jaleel Parris finished fifth in the 100-meter dash in a personal best time of 11.38. He was the lead off leg of the 4x100 and second leg of the 4x400.
Tyrell Jacobs picked up points in the long jump, finishing fifth with a season-best jump of 6.43. Jacobs was the anchor leg of the 4x100.
Trey Drury finished fifth in the 3000-meter steeplechase in a season-best time of 10:38.19.
Leitchfield’s Zac Johnson, a Grayson County High School graduate, was second leg of the 4x100 and Kyle Robinson was anchor leg of the 4x400.
“The men scored in most events we contested in, but right now we just don’t have the depth needed to be able to compete towards the top in the team standing,” Brescia University Coach Luke Stoffel said. “I was very happy with the number of personal best and season best performances at the conference meet. I’m excited for the growth that we will have next year. We are only graduating one of our men this year, so we will have several guys returning next year, plus a good recruiting class.”
