The Scouting Unlimited district of the Boy Scouts of America’s Lincoln Heritage Council will hold its Fall 2011 Adventure Camp from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday, Oct. 3 at Camp Crooked Creek in Bullitt County,
The Adventure Camp is a unique outdoor classroom experience that provides special needs boys and girls the opportunity to experience nature, boating, fishing and other outdoor activities, as well as instruction on healthy eating habits, weather science, music, arts and crafts. The children’s enthusiasm is contagious, and the self-confidence they gain can help them in the classroom and in becoming more self-sufficient. Last May’s Adventure Camp attracted a record crowd for a camp, with 1,808 special needs students attending from 88 schools.
Scouting Unlimited/ Learning for Life is an in-school co-ed program for special needs youth, who are called “Champions.” The 2010-11 Champions Program served 136 public, parochial and private schools and over 2,500 youth in the Greater Louisville, north central Kentucky and southern Indiana areas. For more information on the Champions Program for Special Needs Youth, see the Learning For Life website at www.learning-for-life.org.
